Canon Resource Links: I guess this works?

Personality: Before anything else, the most important thing to note is that Saeki is a genuinely kind person. He never aims to hurt someone, is never rude or cruel but is instead kind, open and easygoing. He is happy to spend time with people, socialize and just generally have a good time, because that's really what life is about isn't it? This is shown time and again in the various canon sources, but most notably when a pair of girls mistake the beachside Rokkaku clubhouse for a stand selling refreshments. Despite the mistake, Saeki says it's fine and invites them to share the drinks, and even the food he's preparing there for his clubmates and himself.

His kindness doesn't tend to stop there, further than that he makes sure to take care of people himself. He is something like his team's big brother, always there to support them and to take care of their needs, more often than not before his own. This even extends beyond his team and onto other people, anyone who asks something of him will have what he can give them. From supporting their first-year team captain, to making sure his whole team, and others have their food and don't need anything else before taking his share, Saeki is the type who will take care of the people around him. It doesn't matter if they're children, or many years his senior.

This sort of connection with people is made possible because Saeki is, for the most part, a very open and unguarded individual. If there's something asked, or something to say, he sees no real reason not to be honest or straightforward about it. Yet at the same time, he is fully capable of being guarded or vague about a subject if it is entirely necessary. In canon it has only happened in relation to tennis, when asked about something related to the sport, his only answer is a noncommittal "You could say that." So Saeki is someone who can keep a secret when necessary. But they are never held back with ill intent, and he wont let them get in the way of a generally open conversation.

And yet even though he is so open, Saeki is also quite modest. Even if he believes in himself and his ability, it's something he doesn't often admit to aloud. Compliments are faced often with a "Ah really?" or even being turned a little toward the other person with a compliment of his own. That is not to say that Saeki isn't confident in himself. He is actually quite so, something that shows with internal comments during his matches. He can read his opponent's every move, he believes he can, and he knows that he can. This is rarely shown outside of a competetive environment, replaced by his modesty in normal conversation, but both are very prominent parts of who he is as a person.

To jump to a non-conversational topic, Saeki is also an incredibly responsible person. He wont let something go undone, and it's something that shows in what he's taken upon himself, being Vice-captain of the tennis club, alongside being Vice-President of the Student Council. Saeki isn't the type to leave before something's finished, and even when a situation has taken a turn for the worse, he will stay behind even alone to make sure it gets done. This is shown most when, after their coach is rushed to the hospital during a match, Saeki stays behind to finish the match, to not let his coach or his team down, and to fulfill his responsibility to them as well as himself.

But more than his sense of responsibility, Saeki is able to remain behind for the match because he is able to keep himself calm even at a time like this. Even though he's worried about his coach's health, upset about what was done to him he keeps himself calm, and focuses all of his concern into determination instead. To win the match, to play to his fullest, to make up for the collective loss of his team and in a way to avenge his coach's injury.

Strengths: → Saeki is a very focused individual, to the point he can and will patiently wait and study something until he understands it completely, and can even predict how something will move because of how fully he made himself understand, and how much he's focused on it.
→ As a tennis player, Saeki's physically a strong person, and in order to last the longer matches, he also has more stamina than your average person.
→ He's actually somewhat artistic, evidenced by his hobby to build artistic castles out of sand.
→ Saeki has very, very good eyesight, to the point where what a normal person can see at eight feet, he can see it at twenty. And alongside this is a perceptiveness made possible because of his above-average vision. He is able to read a person's muscle movements and unconscious habits and even use it against them if he is so inclined.
→ He is an excellent swimmer, and has jumped into the ocean to save someone who had been swept away by the waves and was drowning. They both made it back to shore safe and sound.
→ Saeki is actually a pretty good cook, to the point where he's the one cooking the seafood he and his friends managed to catch/gather that day for them to eat.

Weaknesses: → Saeki's focus can get the better of him sometimes, and while he's set on one thing, it is very possible for him to miss another thing of equal or greater importance.
→ He can tend toward taking care of others first, and himself last. Not much of a problem until there are a lot of people to take care of, and he may have to be reminded to look out for himself too.
→ He can rely far too heavily on his perceptiveness, to the point where if it's someone he can't read, and they come up with something he just can't predict, it can catch him off-guard to the point of being unable to react in time.
→ Though difficult to get to this point, Saeki can hold a bit of a grudge if someone harms a person he is close to. He never acts on it, but he doesn't exactly let go of it, either.

Samples
First Person Sample: [The feed starts up, focused only for a second on the sky before it shifts, the face of a young blonde coming into the frame with a smile.]

A Gear and everything? So then I really am inside a Pokemon game.

[Doesn't seem phased by this, in fact he seems rather entertained.

The camera lowers away from his face a little, the video shaking as he walks and looks around. When he next speaks, his voice is low, not exactly intended for the video.]

Still... I know I didn't see much, but this place doesn't seem familiar...

[Instead of worry, his expression shifts to one of curiosity, never really seeming less than upbeat.]

Well, that's not a problem. And if I get to see a new region, then living the dreams of my classmates doesn't seem so bad.

[Having seen the first game already, the idea of getting to see something new sounds like a good thing.

There's a very brief pause, before his smile almost seems to grow a little bit sheepish.]

If they aren't already here, that is. Haha, this will be a good story for everyone still back home. Maybe I should bring them back souvenirs.

[The tone of his voice isn't serious as his eyes focus on the device in his hands again.]

Does anyone know what would make a good souvenir, from this place?

Third Person Sample:Saeki lowered his hand as 'Mom' closed the door behind him, smile still on his face as he took a couple steps back away from the door before turning around to face the town in front of him. It certainly seemed like a quiet little place, just as the game had shown the protagonist's hometown, and Saeki found that he rather liked it.

"Pokemon hmm? Maybe this will be fun." he laughed as he slipped off the backpack provided him.

If he hadn't been told to see the professor, maybe that meant he already had a starter pokemon. At any rate, he had to check it out, and sooner was better than later if he was to travel between the towns just like in his classmate's game.

So let's see, he knelt to the ground, bag open in front of him, which pocket the pokeballs would be in...

The first pocket? Clothes, soap, other necessary items for what was supposedly going to be a long journey. Okay next? Items, repel, potion, things of that nature. Well only one more pocket seemed to have anything substantial in it, so here's hoping he wouldn't be without a pokemon or means to catch them!

Aha! There. Pokeballs, one of which, he hoped, already held a pokemon.

There was only one problem. Saeki never understood just how the game characters knew just which ball held which pokemon. What was he to do in this situation? Push all the buttons, of course! Something had to happen if one of these held his first pokemon inside! ... Right?

First ball! Nothing. Well that wasn't a problem, there were more after all. Two? Nothing. Three? Something!

On impulse, Saeki shielded his eyes with his free hand against the light that came from the pokeball. He couldn't hold back a smile as he waited for the light to clear. As far as he knew, you could start out with a Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur. Which it was didn't matter to him. He was simply interested to see it.

So it was that the light, that had only been there for a second maybe two, cleared and Saeki froze for a moment as he lowered his hand. Well. Out of all he had expected, this was probably one of the last things. Was this really supposed to happen? Was it a joke? He honestly couldn't be sure.

And then his pokemon lowered it's nose into his hair, the blonde strands ruffled when it let out a heavy sigh. He just couldn't help it, he laughed.

Maybe having a Ponyta from the very beginning would turn out to be more fun than any of the others.
